The Dinwiddie Circuit Court Clerk's Office has been awarded $91,000 through the Commonwealth’s Technology Trust Fund (TTF). The TTF was established in 2006 by section 17.1-279 of the Code of Virginia, allowing a fee to be collected as part of each civil action. Fees are deposited by the State Treasurer into the TTF. Circuit Court Clerks may request funding to support a variety of activities associated with the digitization, automation and security of records.
In Dinwiddie, $55,000 of this year’s award will be allocated to indexing deeds dating back to 1970. This will enable the public to search deeds electronically, which is much easier than the current method. This is the first step in my vision to integrate Circuit Court deeds with property cards in the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office. Once the integration is complete, the public will be able to conduct an electronic search and view both records at once. I will continue requesting TTF's annually until this project is complete.
The remaining $36,000 will be used to conduct maintenance on the current Land Records System, removing Social Security Numbers from documents, and for a redundant server, which will provide an additional layer of security for records. My staff and I look forward to enhancing services to the public through Technology Trust Funds in the future.
