Adult dogs need a chance too. 4 Year old "Ollie" was adopted Jan. 2007.

Adoption Policies

Adoption Fee:  Dogs - $75.00        Cats - $45.00

Fee covers sterilization, rabies vaccine, and DHL/feline shot.

Adopter must be at least 18 years of age with valid identification

In the case of puppies and kittens that are too young to be sterilized,  the animal must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of maturity as outlined in the sterilized agreement.

If the adoption is not successful, the animal may be returned to the shelter.  Refunds will be issued if returned within 7 days.  No refunds after 7 days.

For un-sterilized animals, adopter must live in Dinwiddie County or surrounding jurisdictions.

Animals cannot be transferred to another owner unless compliance with spay/neuter requirement has already been satisfied.

Adopter must abide by State regulations concerning owner responsibilities.

If home is located on rental property, permission from the manager or landlord must be obtained in writing before any animal will be released.

Guarantee

We make every effort to make sure each and every animal in our shelter is healthy.  However, we cannot guarantee any animal adopted from our facility.  A certificate is issued upon adoption for use at a local veterinarian for the purpose of making sure the animal is healthy.  If the animal is not healthy, you may return it to the shelter for a refund within 7 days of adoption.  As with any animal adopted from a shelter, there is always a possibility of an undetected disease. 

We also cannot guarantee that the animal will not chase cars, eat your shoes or make a mess on your clean floor

We CAN guarantee that we will take the animal back if the adoption does not go well.
