Frequently Asked Questions

How long are animals kept at the shelter?

Animals with no collar are kept a full 5 days, animals with a collar are kept 10 full days.

Do you check for micro-chips or tattoos?

Yes.

Can I board my pet while I go on vacation?

No.  The shelter is used to house animals that are strays, turn-ins, or have been picked up.

Can I make a donation to the shelter?

Yes.  Donations are used to purchase immunizations for the adoptable animals.  We also gladly accept donations of food, towels and blankets.

Will the animal be put to sleep?

There are no guarantees.  Some animals get sick, are aggressive or  non-sociable, have bitten someone or killed another animal.  These are considered non-adoptable and will be put to sleep.  We make every effort to screen the animals to make sure that they are adoptable and will keep them as long as possible.  We also use rescue groups and the internet to find homes for our adoptable animals.

How are animals put to sleep?

Euthanasia is performed by lethal injection.  It is painless and very quick acting.  Our staff has been fully trained and is certified and licensed as required by law.

I couldn't do your job.  How can you do it?

It is not easy, but necessary.  With so many irresponsible pet owners out there, someone has to be able to provide this service.  Sometimes it means medicating a sick animal for several days, ending an animal's suffering, or taking the time to bathe, groom, and advertise an animal to find it a loving home.  Although there may be times that are difficult there are also times that can be very rewarding.
