Concealed Handgun
Renewals can now be done by mail
- Fill out this State Police Form (Click here for Application)
- Mail the application, along with, $50 fee payable to "Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office," and a copy of your current permit, to the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office, P.O. Box 63, Dinwiddie, VA 23841.
- You should receive your application in the mail from the Clerk's Office within 45 days from the day the sheriff's office has received it.
Instructions for New and Renewal Concealed Handgun Permits
- Fill out this State Police Form (Click here for Application) Note: Must attach a photocopy of documentation that demonstrates your competence with a handgun for initial permits only.
- Take it to the Dinwiddie Sheriff’s Department with a $50 check. They will take your fingerprints and run a background check as necessary. The address to the Sheriff’s Department is: 14230 Sycamore Drive; Dinwiddie, VA 23841
- The Sheriff will then forward the application to the Dinwiddie’s Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
- Once it is received we will present it to the Judge and he will sign an order approving or denying the permit.
- If your permit is approved the Clerk’s Office will prepare your permit
- If your permit is denied you are entitled to a ore tenus hearing within 21 days
- The Clerk’s Office will now mail your signed permit to you in an effort to better serve the public.
- You are no longer required to come to the Clerk's Office to pick up your permit
- It should take about 45 days upon receipt from the Sheriff's Department
- If it has been more than 45 days please call the Clerk's Office and we will inform you of your permit status
