The Mission of the Dinwiddie Department of Social Services is to work collaboratively with other community agencies in order to promote self-reliance and protection to citizens of our community.  Our commitment is to provide quality services and assistance that acknowledge our clients as part of a family system and empowers them by building their competencies.

Working in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Social Services,  our function is to provide benefits and services to the citizens of Dinwiddie County.

 

The Fuel Assistance Program assists with heating costs.  Applications will be accepted from October 13, 2009 through November 13, 2009.  The fuel applications may be received by mail, fax or in person.  Income for all household members must be verified.  Income limits vary according to household size.

 

The Crisis Assistance application period begins November 2, 2009 and closes March 15, 2010.  Applications for Crisis Assistance emergency primary fuel and/or utility cut-offs will be accepted beginning January 4, 2010.  The application period for all types of Crisis Assistance will close March 15, 2010.

Commodity Distribution

Provided by Dinwiddie Department of Social Services through the Central VA Food Bank. Each month non-perishable items of food, based on availability, will include such items as apple sauce, canned beef, beans, corn, green beans, peaches, rice, salmon, spaghetti sauce, etc. PLEASE BRING GROCERY BAGS TO HELP us with distribution.

Applications can ONLY be filed the day of the distribution. Workers will be there to assist applicants.

Must provide proof of Identity AND residency on the date of distribution.

If you are currently a Food Stamp, Medicaid or SSI recipient you will be required to file and application and are automatically eligible for the commodities. All other citizens will file an application and self declare their household's income to determine eligibility based on income limits issues by USDA.
