VOLUNTEERS

Commodities Program

Welcome to the Dinwiddie Department of Social Services Volunteer Page. We appreciate your interest and would like to extend an invitation to join our dynamic volunteer team. Currently, we are adding volunteers to help with the distribution of nonperishable USDA food at Rohoic Elementary School. The second Tuesday of each month volunteers are needed to help with the unloading and break down of the food cartons coming from Central Virginia Food Bank. The following Thursday, volunteers assist the qualified families to receive their allotment of commodities. We are now providing USDA food to 350-400 families per month.  Since June, 2009, this program has helped 3,427 households. Additional programs needing volunteers are: the Back To School Fair, Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas Baskets, and a new Foster Grandparent project. If you would like to help with these programs, dates, times, and information will be listed as it becomes available.
