What happens to the trash I place in the dumpsters?

The trash is collected by CFS and taken to a landfill facility outside of the county.

Can people from neighboring localities use dumpsters in Dinwiddie?

No.  The dumpsters are in place for the disposal of household waste for Dinwiddie residents only.  

How do I report illegal dumping?

How do you process recyclable items?

Recyclable items are collected and hauled to a recycler for separtation. 

Cardboard boxes should be broken down before being placed in a container.

What items are acceptable / unacceptable?

Acceptable:
office paper,printer paper, mixed paper, plastic drink bottles, aluminum
drink cans, magazines, newspapers, cardboard, shrink wrap, washed & cleaned aluminum foil.

Unacceptable:
plastic bags, soiled food containers, food waste, ink cartridges, electronic
items(computer parts, software, etc.)

How do I dispose of hazardous waste?

The Dinwiddie County Extension Office coordinates hazardous waste disposal on an annual basis.  For additional information on the next scheduled date, contact the Extension Office at (804) 469-4514.  If you have a question as to whether or not an item is hazardous, please call the landfill for assistance.
