Resource Conservation & Development Council
About the Council
The Secretary of Agriculture designates RC&D Areas, which have individual councils composed of local citizens and sponsors. These councils adopt and implement priority projects in their areas. In Virginia, seven designated and two applicant RC&D Councils partner with NRCS on projects to put more conservation on the ground throughout the state. Those RC&D Councils are:
  • Black Diamond
  • Eastern Shore
  • New River-Highlands
  • Old Dominion
  • Shenandoah
  • Tidewater
  • South Centré Corridors

South Centré Corridors
South Centré Corridors RC&D Council was formed in January of 2002. It was created to identify and address Natural Resource concerns and issues that have potential to be developed and utilized in a manner that both protects the resources and provides economic stimulus. The council service area is located in the southeastern portion of Virginia. It includes the counties of Dinwiddie, Greensville, Prince George, Southampton, and Sussex, and the cities of Hopewell and Petersburg.

South Centré Corridors RC&D is a 501(c) (3) Non-Profit Corporation. Members of the corporation include the governing bodies of the counties and cities mentioned above, the Appomattox River, James River, and Chowan Basin Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the Crater Planning District Commission.
