Service & Remembrance Day - Petersburg National Battlefield
Saturday, September 11, 2021
Groups, families, and individuals interested in helping maintain this site, where over 6,000 Union soldiers are buried, are asked to preregister by emailing pete_vip@nps.gov.
There are two opportunities to choose from; a morning session from 9:00-11:00 am and an evening session from 5:00-7:00 pm with each session’s work consisting of cleaning headstones. Volunteers should arrive at Poplar Grove National Cemetery, 8005 Vaughan Rd. Petersburg, VA, 15 minutes before their session start time and are encouraged to bring work gloves, a full water bottle, and wear weather-appropriate attire.
This event is being held in observance of Service and Remembrance Day which began in 2016. It provides the public a "chance to help others in tribute to those killed and injured on September 11, 2001, first responders, and the countless others who serve to defend the nation’s freedom at home and around the globe."
