[ARCHIVED] Brenda Ebron-Bonner Named 2026 Chair of the Board of Supervisors

Chair Transfer 2026

January 6, 2026

Dear Citizens and Friends of Dinwiddie County,

As I prepare to serve as Chair of the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors in 2026, I do so with deep gratitude for the trust placed in me by my fellow Board members and a renewed commitment to the people of Dinwiddie County.

During the Christmas season, I had the privilege of spending an evening with the members of the American Legion Post 149.   What I expected to be a simple time of holiday fellowship became a powerful and eye-opening conversation.  I listened as veterans shared their stories, not only of service and sacrifice, but also of the challenges many veterans face long after their uniforms are put away.  Issues related to mental health, access to care, and even homelessness were discussed openly and honestly.  Those conversations stayed with me.

Dinwiddie County is home to a large and proud population of veterans.  They have served our nation with courage and honor, and they deserve not only our respect and recognition but also our action.  In 2026, I intend to focus particular attention on veterans’ issues, especially mental health support and access to resources.  While we celebrate our veterans, we must also ensure they are aware of, and connected to, the resources and services that can help them thrive.

This focus naturally aligns with another priority I hope to advance in the coming year: promoting healthy living for all Dinwiddie residents.  Health is not limited to physical well-being alone.  Mental health is just as critical, and yet it is too often overlooked or stigmatized.  Whether you are a veteran, a working parent, a senior citizen, or a young person navigating life, mental wellness impacts every aspect of our lives and our community.

As a County, we cannot address these challenges alone.  Progress will require collaboration with community organizations, non-profit agencies, faith-based groups, and most importantly, our residents.  I hope to help foster conversations, partnerships, and initiatives that make support more accessible and visible to those who need it most.

Dinwiddie County is strongest when we look out for one another.  By honoring our veterans through meaningful support and encouraging healthier lives for all, we can continue to build a community rooted in compassion, resilience, and shared responsibility…a community in which to spend a lifetime.

I look forward to the year ahead and to working together to make 2026 a year of service, support, and well-being for Dinwiddie County.

 Sincerely,

Brenda K. Ebron-Bonner, Chair

 Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors
