Recording Information
The Circuit Court Clerk's Office records deeds, deeds of trust (mortgages), and other official instruments / documents associated with land transactions in Dinwiddie County. In order for a document to be recorded, it must be one that is authorized by law to be recorded in the Deed Book and it must meet certain statutory provisions.
Important Note: Dinwiddie Circuit Court bases recordation taxes on the consideration for all deeds that is at arms length. For example, any bank owned property that has been sold on the market would be based on the consideration not the assessed value. All foreclosure deeds and any deed where parties know each other the recordation taxes will be based on the assessed value or consideration whichever is higher.

Social Security Numbers
Redaction is the electronic process of removing the Social Security Number from a document. This office undertook a major redaction project in April, 2008, before our images were made available online to ensure the protection of our citizens’ identities.
Pursuant to Code of Virginia § 17.1-227, this office will not knowingly accept or record any documents that include the Social Security Number of any party.
